Weight gain is a risk factor for many health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and some cancers. They found that in people with the variant one letter of DNA code had been replaced by another. Previous studies have shown that IRX3 and IRX5 switch on during times of fat loss in the body, such as during periods of starvation to conserve fat. The technique sees a modified protein Cas9 injected into the body where it can snip away specific sections of DNA.

Mice which had been bred to obese saw a reduction of body weight and all major fat stores, and complete resistance to a high-fat diet. Terms and Conditions. Style Book. Weather Forecast. See a Problem?

I discovered that many of the foods labeled 'Organic' or 'Pure' or 'Healthy' were anything but. It's funny how the health industry can claim their food items are 'organic' when the end result is destroying your body. Yes, they may have started out with an organic element, but through their processing, turned it into something that can keep you - or make you - ill.

NOW, let me state that Mr.

Moalem's book does not speak back about organic items. He talks about ALL food items. Since we eat mostly organic - and there is where my discovery was made - then this is why I reference organic foods more.

Since I'm an avid reader of health books, I realized that this information can help with a greater number of conditions than are stated within the book. Do not dismiss it because it's a 'diet' book. In actuality, when looking at foods I nixed because they weren't 'organic,' I realized that I can add them back into my diet. The cracker test is fun - and eye-opening.

The Alcohol Intake Guide interesting as well. While the results of that test show I could drink more often, I still only prefer the occasional glass of red wine every now and then. My husband and I are still in the early stages of his Day Restart program.

If you're someone who's been doing 'oil pulling' for better health - a read through this book will show you how you can achieve optimal health to the point you no longer have to do a 20min oil pulling session. I created our own toothpaste from virgin coconut oil, turmeric, and baking soda — so the mouth still gets a dose of coconut oil daily, just not for 20 minutes.

I could continue to write about this book. Moalem, I thank you, and my family thanks you. I wish it great success. Oct 09, Karen rated it really liked it Shelves: food-diet , heal-book-club , health-fitness. Read this book for my local healthy living book club.

It was well written and researched. I really enjoyed the chapter on oolong tea, learned how it was different than green tea as well as the chapter on Umami. I will be working to get umami in my meals. Sep 15, Vincent Schaefer rated it really liked it. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Very interesting book. I will try to apply some of the tests suggested. Jun 12, Laurie rated it really liked it. I read this book because I heard about the cracker test to determine carb tolerance. It's actually full of sensible advice on eating nutrient-rich foods, exercising, and getting enough sleep.

There was surprisingly little mention of supplements and no selling of DNA testing kits. There is also little mention of topical DNA damage control, like using sunscreens etc. Sep 13, Alexandros Stratakis rated it really liked it. Interesting generally nothing completely new if you are relevant with the food sector, it has some practical ways to do a personal genetic test that where new for me that might be very useful for those who are interested. Jun 08, Eugenia L. Disappointed I had hoped for some groundbreaking information.

It's the same stuff: eat a good diet, exercise, get a good night's sleep. Jan 11, Coach Vicki rated it really liked it. This is fascinating material. I first picked up Dr. Moalem's Inheritance at the library and was amazed. So I had to read Survival of the Sickest. Again, amazing book!

This DNA Restart is his newest one and I've noticed it's not written in the same witty, readable style as the other two. It's still remarkable information but he didn't write this with the help of Jonathan Prince as he did before.
